Council District 14 – Democratic Party Primary

Rank #1 Preferred Candidate

Pierina Sanchez

Age: 36

Occupation: New York City Council Member, District 14

Education: Harvard (B.A.), Princeton (MBA)

Pierina Sanchez is completing her first term as the Council Member of this district. As Chair of the Committee on Housing and Building, she played a pivotal role in major housing and planning programs, including the passage of City of Yes and told CU that housing remains her top priority in her district. She is also aligned with much of CU’s reform agenda, in particular as it related to police accountability and officer misconduct. She diverged from CU’s priorities on the question of open primaries but reiterated that she would be open to having further conversations about the matter. Considering her support for democratic reform, ability to deliver for her district, and achievements in the Council, Sanchez certainly deserves a second term, and Citizens Union prefers her in this race.

Rank #2

Bryan Hodge Vasquez

Age: 24

Occupation: New York City Council Law Fellow

Education: NYU (B.A.), Pace University (JD)

Bryan Hodge Vasquez is a recent law school graduate who, after running an assembly campaign last year, decided to try his luck in campaigning himself. Despite his young age and relative inexperience in comparison with his competitors, Hodge Vasquez touts his background interning in city, state, and federal governments and his youth brings a new perspective to City government. He is aligned with CU’s reform agenda. Citizens Union appreciates Hodge Vasquez’s ambition and drive and looks forward to watching his career grow.
