Preferred Candidate

Alexa Avilés

Age: 52

Occupation: New York City Council Member, (District 38)

Alexa Avilés is completing her first term on the City Council where she has represented Sunset Park and nearby neighborhoods. During her tenure, she has passed seven pieces of legislation, primarily focused on issues affecting working-class communities, and has served as Chair of the Council’s Immigration Committee. Before joining the Council, Avilés spent much of her career in philanthropy, including a decade at the Scherman Foundation, where she rose to the role of Program Director. Her background in both advocacy and government has helped her skillfully navigate the legislative process. Avilés has consistently supported Citizens Union’s reform agenda, backing key policy positions in her questionnaire responses and co-sponsoring CU-supported legislation. Given her record of effectiveness, alignment with CU’s priorities, and ability to deliver for her district, Citizens Union prefers Alexa Avilés in this race.
