Council District 51 – Republican Party Primary

Preferred Candidate

Frank Morano

Age: 51

Occupation: Radio Talk Show Host, WABC

Education: NYU (B.A), partial credits towards a MPA

Frank Morano was a radio talk show host for nearly 20 years before winning a special election this spring to replace Joe Borelli in the City Council. A long-time community member, he served on his local community board since 2013, previously worked as a staffer for Council Members Borelli and Ignizio, and was active in the state’s Independence and Reform parties. Morano supports most of Citizens Union’s priorities and has a well-established commitment to government reform. He has long advocated for opening up New York’s primary elections and has testified before multiple Charter Revision Commissions. While he differs from Citizens Union on some issues, namely even-year election reform and the city’s public matching funds program, he consistently articulates principled positions and offers alternative policy solutions. Citizens Union found Frank Morano to be a thoughtful, independent-minded candidate with a genuine commitment to strengthening local democracy. We endorsed him in the spring special election and encourage voters to rank him first in the current primary to give him a full four-year term.
